We caught up with sports luxe enthusiast and Fabulous magazine’s junior stylist Lara Grayson (@laraemmaxo) to get you the low down on the right way to rock your favourite athleisure pieces. Lara is no stranger to athleisure influences and embraces these trends in both her styling and personal style.

“There have always been two kinds of athleisure trends for me. Sports luxe which has always been in my mind the PVC trouser, gold hoop and a top knot and then there is actual Sportswear.

“However, the revival of the 90’s leisure brands has made wearing actual sports gear as fashion a trend again.

“The more logos the better, this look has evolved and is no longer for the chavvy kids around the estate. It has become cool to wear trackies to work.

“On the SS16 catwalks when Chloe showcased the red tracksuit in its Ready-To-Wear collection it became cool again and not for the fashion shy.

So where does this leave athleisure for us and how do we get the look right?

“Mixing different brands is a great way to experiment with style and layering is also key with this trend.

“Using current materials like tulle, sheer and mesh is a great way to update your look as well as the bra top.

“Black and gold are always effective and is my signature look when I’m having one of those… I don’t know what to wear days.

“This season I’ll be adding these current trends to my go to sports luxe staples.

“The bra top, over a t-shirt;  with tulle and mesh tops, paired with denim, you can never go wrong.

“Metallics also go so well with the sports luxe look.

“An outfit is always finished with accessories, for sports luxe this is key.Choose a pair of mirrored framed style sunglasses for this season or the Celine classic style which are my go-to pair.

“The catwalk for this season showcased so many different ways in terms of sportswear.

“Joseph did the printed pieces paired with sandals proving sports luxe doesn’t always need to be with trainers. Versace went down the purple road with waterproof fabrics, whilst Tommy Hilfiger stuck to the style we all know and love, the classic red trackie with a stripe in sight.

“The great thing about sports luxe is that you don’t need to go all out to make a statement, mix up your accessories by wearing neoprene and sporty fabrics and don’t be afraid to colour clash or mix up your brands.”
