MUA Toni Neylon Walker shares her top tips to ensure you achieve the perfect bright pout.
Wearing an unconventional lip colour can seem out of reach for some but these seven tips will help you master the art of rocking a statement lip. Get inspired and wear these at a music festival this summer. You’ll be sure to have that WOW factor.
To pull off a bold lip, consider skin tone. If you are fair vampy lip colours work great if you want to make a statement, pinks, nudes and browns work lovely too. For medium skin corals, reds and pinks work great. For darker skin tones purple, cherry colours, reds and dark browns work so well.
2.DO YOUR PREP
Always prep your lips. If you are going to make something stand out it needs to be hydrated and smooth. I recommend using a gentle lip scrub (homemade ones are great) and a balm such as Dr.PAW PAW. This will leave your lips flake free, hydrated and smooth ready for application.
3. IT’S ALL IN THE LINE
Line the lips! Using a matching shade to your chosen lipstick or a clear liner, lining the lips will ensure the colour does not bleed. This is a must for me especially when wearing red.
4.BLUE IS BEST
At times lipstick can get us self-conscious about the state of our teeth.
Lipstick shades with a blue undertone make your teeth appear whiter.
5.PACK A PUNCH
Don’t be scared to pack a punch, if your outfit is plain, just black or you don’t have much other makeup on. Don’t be afraid to add all of the colour to your lips this works really well and adds all the focus to the one feature
6.POWDER THAT POUT
Make the colour stay put. Remove any excess with a tissue and dab your lips with a powder, this will help it last a lot longer!
7.GLOSS IT UP FOR A FULL LOOK
Forget lip fillers! For a fuller pout using bold colours, add a gloss to the centre of the bottom lip or a shade slightly lighter than the overall lip colour.
